In the coming period, Rijkswaterstaat has scheduled maintenance work on several sliding cylinders and universal beams of the StormN57 Oosterscheldekering: 30-minute closure on 11, 13, 17 and 19 August due to lifting operations
The cylinders and cardan beams previously removed from Schaar 9 and Roompot 3 have now completed an extensive refurbishment and are ready to be reinstalled. The lifting of the cylinders will take place on four different days in August. The work will be carried out in the morning between 09:00 and 09:45.
Important
We advise you not to take a detour. The closure will last approximately 30 minutes, while a detour can easily take an hour or more. It is therefore much more efficient to wait for the road to reopen.
Advice
If you have not yet joined the queue of waiting vehicles, we recommend turning around or leaving the road and parking at a designated parking area. Please wait there until the closure has been lifted.
The most suitable parking locations for waiting are:
- N57 North side (coming from Burgh-Haamstede): Daleboutsweg 3, Burgh-Haamstede
- N57 South side (coming from Middelburg): Wingsurfspot Breezand car park, Vrouwenpolder
- N255 South side (coming from Kamperland): Parking areas along Onrustweg (parking on grass concrete paving)
During the closure, the service road will remain accessible to all road users (pedestrians, cyclists and motor vehicles) up to the fenced-off work area (indicated by the blue dashed line).
On both sides of the work area, all road users must wait at the designated waiting areas (indicated by the orange zone) during the closure. Traffic controllers will manage traffic from both directions. Coffee and tea will be available while you wait.
Access to Roggenplaat and Neeltje Jans
During the closure, Roggenplaat and the Neeltje Jans work island will remain accessible to all road users:
- During lifting operations at Schaar 9, access is via Kamperland.
- During lifting operations at Roompot 3, access is via Burgh-Haamstede.
Emergency services
Emergency services will have access at all times and will be assisted by the traffic controllers as required.
Thank you for your understanding and patience!
