Stormsimulator

You’re standing in an old barn. It’s cold, dark, and the wind whistles through the wooden planks. A Zeeland farmer lived here with his family in 1953. As night falls, the wind grows stronger and the water rises. The night of the disaster is about to begin.

What follows is not a typical museum visit but a powerful experience of the 1953 flood disaster.

From the barn, you step into the storm simulator, the heart of the experience. Here, you truly feel the raw power of a hurricane. Wind gusts of over 130 kilometers per hour roar around you. The storm howls, and for a moment, you feel what it was like to stand in the middle of the chaos of 1953. This simulator doesn’t just let you hear and see the storm, it lets you feel it. The scale of the disaster becomes tangible: 1,836 people lost their lives, thousands of homes were destroyed, and entire villages were submerged. The 1953 storm was a turning point in Dutch history, marking the start of the Delta Works and our fight against the water.

The storm simulator is not just an attraction, it’s a memory. A tribute to those who lived through it, and a warning about the power of water. Do you dare to face the force of a hurricane?
